CEI provided the civil engineering for this award-winning project by Drury Southwest, which included renovation of the historic Alamo National Bank Building into a 320-room Drury Plaza Hotel and the completion of the San Antonio Riverwalk loop in the main channel. The project was listed as a 2007 “Best in Commerical Real Estate / Hotel Venue“ winner by the San Antonio Business Journal, and its innovative design was also featured in Forbes Magazine during the construction phase (October 2006)
The $73 million project includes a 700-foot extension of the San Antonio Riverwalk one block past the Alamo National Bank Building, completing the famous River Walk Loop and connecting the project to the much more vibrant parts of the River Walk. The project include a courtyard in the basement of the bank building's attached parking garage, major floodproofing, and a pathway suspended beneath the Commerce Street bridges that appear to float atop the water. Walking “bridges“ underneath the roadway bridges appear to be suspended, though they are attached to the structure underneath in the main channel of the San Antonio River.
